• How to test the textiles?
  • Textiles are often the origin of flammable substances that cause fires. Therefore, it is particularly important to establish and improve the standard system for testing the flame retardant properties of textiles. There are many test methods for the flame retardant performance of textiles. Currently, the commonly used test methods are the oxygen index method, vertical combustion method, horizontal combustion method, 45° combustion method, tablet combustion method, cigarette method, etc. Now let's introduce three of the test methods.

    1. Limiting oxygen index method

GB/T 5454-1997 "Textile Combustion Performance Test Oxygen Index Method" is applicable to various types of textiles. Oxygen Index (LOI) refers to the minimum oxygen content volume percentage required to maintain combustion in an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere after the material is ignited. Generally speaking, the LOI value of fabrics with flame retardant properties should be equal to or greater than 28%.

       2. Horizontal combustion method

The principle of FZ/T 01028-1993 "Horizontal Method for Determination of Combustion Properties of Textile Fabrics" is: under the specified test conditions, the textile samples in the horizontal direction (5 pieces each in the warp and weft directions, with a size of 350mm × 100mm) are ignited for 15s, measure the distance the flame spreads on the sample and the time it takes to spread this distance, expressed as the rate of flame spread. If the width of the sample is less than 60mm, the length is 350mm, and if the width is 60mm~100mm, the length is at least 160mm. This method is suitable for all kinds of textiles.

This is a horizontal flammability tester for testing the flame resistance of textiles, in line with ISO 3795, FMVSS 302, DIN 75200, SAE J369, ASTM D5132, JIS D1201, and BSAU 1690 these standards, simple operation, stable system, high accuracy, with For determining the comparative burn rate and flame resistance of textiles, especially those used in automotive interiors. The combustion performance of textiles can be well judged.
