• What are the EU's testing standards for toys?

  • Toys are like partners for children and play an indispensable role in the growth of children. Many parents are busy with their own careers and usually have very little time for their children, so toys become the closest partner and learning tool for children. Excellent toys, to enhance the child's hands-on ability, thinking skills, for the development of a variety of cognitive ability is very beneficial. But the child's tender skin for the resistance to external aggression is insufficient, toys as children's longest contact time objects, its safety is directly related to the safety of children. At present, countries also attach great importance to toy safety issues, have developed and continue to improve the corresponding toy regulations, then we will study together with the EU EN71 toy testing standards.

The EU toy standard EN71 a total of 11 parts, general toys only need to do the first three parts, namely EN71-1, EN71-2, EN71-3, China is a large toy production and exporting countries, exporting many toys to the European market, the business must consciously do a good job of the EU toy EN71 test, only through the EN71 test toys, can be allowed to enter the European market.

Part 1 EN71-1:2005 Toy Safety: Physical and Mechanical Properties

This part mainly includes drop test, small parts test, sharp edge test, tension test, pressure test, thread seam test, ear, nose and eye tension, torque test, etc.

Part 2 EN71-2:2006 Toy safety: flame retardant properties

This part specifies the types of flammable materials prohibited for all toys and the flammability requirements for toys with certain small fire sources. It is required that the burning rate of the tested material shall not exceed the limit value specified in the standard. Involves toys worn on the head, toys fancy dress costumes and toys for children to wear during play, toys for children to enter, soft stuffed toys containing plush or textile fabrics.

Part 3 EN71-3:2001/AC:2002 Toy Safety: Transfer of Certain Elements

This part specifies the large limits for the transportable elements (antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, tin) in the accessible parts or materials of toys. The test principle is: soluble elements are simulated materials under the conditions of continuous contact with stomach acid for a period of time after swallowing, the leachater extracted from the toy material. The content of soluble elements is quantitatively determined using a method with appropriate detection limits.
