What is the significant of the Akron abrasion test?
The measurements are done through volumetric loss of a rotating specimen exposed to the action of a standard grinding wheel. It is especially suited for testing harder materials such as shoe soles, tires and other rubber materials.
How do you test for an abrasion?
The test is performed using a Taber Rotary Platform Abraser and involves mounting a flat specimen to a turntable platform that rotates on a vertical axis at a fixed speed. Two Taber abrasive wheels, which are applied at a specific pressure, are then lowered onto the specimen surface.
